What are the Yoga Sutra of Patañjali?
The Yoga Sutra are a collection of Sanskrit aphorisms compiled early in the common era by Sanskrit grammarian and philosopher Sri Patañjali. There are 196 sutra or verses that outline and synthesize the practice of yoga based on earlier Vedic philosophy and teachings.
Topics include:
What is yoga?
8 Steps or Practices in the yogis path
How to live a yogic lifestyle
What is the mind, what are thoughts, and how to approach them.
What is the ego?
What is karma?
Yogic powers and distractions
There are countless translations and interpretations of the Yoga Sutra. I will primarily use the following two versions. If you are purchasing a new copy, I recommend one of the following versions. If you already have a copy from another translator/interpreter you are welcome to use it.
